Wayne Dobson was born in Leicester and discovered a passion for magic at a young age. One of his earliest memories was seeing a magician tear up some tissue paper and turn it into a bunch of flowers. Years later, on a school trip to London, he walked into a magic shop and never looked back!
In his teens, Dobson practised hard and enjoyed performing to family and friends, as well as the occasional performance at a local youth club. At 16 he was demonstration great potential and started to pick up occasional local engagements and club work on a semi-professional basis.
In 1977 he was joint first prizewinner at a close up magic competition, which led to his TV debut on the BBC children’s’ show, Blue Peter. At 21 he decided to become a professional magician.
Wayne Dobson’s unique style and flair worked well with his witty one liners and he was soon working with some of Britain’s top performers. In 1988 he went on an American tour with Engelburt Humperdinck, which saw him, entertaining in Las Vega, Hollywood and Chicago.
In 1989, he appeared on the Royal Variety Show at the London Palladium and performed a hilarious routine with Frank Bruno and Harry Carpenter. He soon had his own show, Wayne Dodson – A Kind of Magic, on ITV. At one point the viewing figures were a staggering 11 million!
In 1988, Dobson was diagnosed with MS but he didn’t give up. Fighting on, he has become regarded as an icon within the magic community and frequently delivers lectures up and down the country.
In 2004 he was awarded the highest award in magic for outstanding individual achievement by The Magic Circle. In 2005 he got married and together with his wife, runs DTRICK, feturing his range of magic products.
Wayne Dobson continues to perform and lecture up and down the UK and recently completed a nationwide tour with great friend Joe Pasquale.
